An Upside to 2020

One of the positive outcomes of 2020 is having to confront ourselves.

We’ve been forced to press the pause button on many parts of life. That which energizes and depletes us has come into sharp focus.

Before the pandemic, we were busy.

We could easily distract ourselves with dining out, movies on the big screen, live performances, shopping in stores, parties, and travel. Work commutes were often about phone calls.

Busy.

One haiku in my book LIFE-KU: 101 Life Coaching Tips, 17 Syllables at a Time describes life before covid:

Rush, rush, rush, rush, rush

Rush, rush, rush, rush, rush, rush, rush

        You’re missing your life.

Covid stripped us down to the essentials.

I’ve spent the past few months thinking hard about what I love about my life and what I’m ready to release. It’s like cleaning out a closet – you get rid of items not because there’s anything inherently wrong with them, but because they no longer serve you.

I’ve made small changes and am working on larger ones. I bought artwork to replace my office wall décor that no longer felt right. I’m making changes to my business. I enrolled in a book writing workshop that forces me to write now that I have no excuses to hide behind!

Who nourishes you? Who drains you?

What do you love about your job? What needs to change?

How does your home make you feel? How can you make it a sanctuary?

Which brings me to another haiku in my book:

Deep down inside you

Are your real desires and wants

        Be still and listen.

Now we have time to listen. To ourselves.
